We’ve been working with Pelican, the leader in rugged protective cases, since 2012. We’ve updated their coveted iconic case to express a newer, lighter technology, introduced a range of flashlights for first responders, and helped them to successfully enter the highly competitive mobile device case market. 

Cargo Cases

Designed for Pelican to provide the highest level of protection for gear and equipment on vehicles while overlanding and outdoor adventure traveling.

We performed an immersive lifestyle survey into the psyche of the overland community. After thoughtful analysis, we developed innovative features based on the community’s concerns, technical and emotional.

The first overland travel case designed from the ground up with a quick release mounting system.

Each piece of custom steel hardware is designed to work with either traditional tie downs, or with the quick release system.   

We developed a contemporary design language that can be manufactured in the United States  using rotational molding.

Simultaneously, we developed a functional ecosystem of complimentary cases that coordinate  with a mounting system for roof racks and truck beds.

Pelican AIR Cases

In late 2014, Pelican approached us with a very special project. The goal was to create a new line of ultra-protective, lightweight, and modernized waterproof cases. 

Being outdoor aficionados and gear heads ourselves, we recognized the importance of the iconic status that Pelican cases have earned. 

Preserving an Icon

At the outset, we interviewed expert users and found that Pelican cases had become synonymous with professionalism. Initially intended for the open ocean, the Pelican case was adopted by photographers and adventurers alike, a badge of honor and proof of expertise.

We proposed that the AIR cases should look as Pelican as possible. Only upon closer inspection, you’ll notice the technological refinement of every surface, completely refreshed components, and distillation of the icon into a lighter modern case.

Credited as the most successful product launch in Pelican history.

The cases exceeded the original sales target by more than 100%. All inventory of the Pelican Air cases quickly sold out at first launch.The extremely popular line continues to grow and include more shapes and sizes to keep up with customer demand. 

The AIR design language now covers a broad range of cases, including luggage, micro cases, and specialized protection.

7070R Tactical Flashlight

BEvery surface and shape on the 7070R is designed to give first responders safety, accuracy, and reliability in its operation.  To quicken reaction time in low light situations, we developed surfaces to aid in blind operation.

Adaptation is integral for the unpredictable situations of first responders’ work. The added utility of dual buttons and programmable modes allows the flashlight to adapt to their needs.

The Pelican 7070R Flashlight is a high tech, feature packed flashlight that was tailored specifically for the challenges that face today’s first responders. This includes a bluetooth connected app for easily customizing lighting modes and performance, a wireless charging dock that keeps the flashlight always ready for duty, and a physical form that was crafted specifically for the demands of the job.

The wireless charging dock doubles as a quick release mounting cradle. The charging dock can be powered by USB or AC current installed in a car interior, desk, or wall. The car mount holds the flashlight secure even in the case of a crash. Wireless charging also eliminates a possible point of water ingress.

Phone Cases

We designed a family of mobile device cases for Pelican that lead their entrance into the consumer market. And for the following eight years, we continually evolved their phone case offering.

The cases cemented Pelican as a lifestyle brand, lending Pelican’s reputation as a pioneer in protective cases to the phone case market.

After success with five generations of devices, we revisited the protector and voyager cases coinciding with iPhone 11.

We redesigned the cases to future proof the constantly evolving camera window and created a figure-hugging design to reflect the new supersized screens.
